to the movies
Friday, July 15, 2011Julia Roberts. Just when you thought you couldn't love her (and her laugh) any more.
Did you know she is a fellow knitter?
Yep, knits on the set all of the time. She has been quoted as saying, "You know I'm like a total geek, right? First of all, I sit on the set and knit. It's a very social hobby, as opposed to reading at work - I can chat with people and still be fully engaged."
Right on, Julia. Not a geek at all. In my eyes, even cooler!
Anyhow, Tom Hanks, co-star and director, played a prank on actress Julia Roberts while shooting their new film Larry Crowne.
Check it out:
Love that!
About the film:
Starring: Tom Hanks, Julia Roberts, Bryan Cranston, Cedric the Entertainer, Taraji P. Henson,Gugu Mbatha Raw, Wilmer Valderrama, Pam Grier, Rami Malek, George Takei, Grace Gummer, Rita Wilson, Jon Seda
Directed By: Tom Hanks
Written By: Tom Hanks and Nia Vardalos
Oscar® winners Tom Hanks and Julia Roberts reunite for a dramatic comedy about how the hard knocks from today’s recession inspire one everyday guy to undergo a personal reinvention: Larry Crowne.
Until he was downsized, affable, amiable Larry Crowne (Hanks) was a superstar team leader at the big-box company where he’s worked since his time in the Navy. Underwater on his mortgage and unclear on what to do with his suddenly free days, Larry heads to his local college to start over. There he becomes part of a colorful community of outcasts, also-rans and the overlooked all trying to find a better future for themselves…often moving around town in a herd of scooters. In his public-speaking class, Larry develops an unexpected crush on his teacher Mercedes Tainot (Roberts), who has lost as much passion for teaching as she has for her husband.
The simple guy who has every reason to think his life has stalled will come to learn an unexpected lesson: when you think everything worth having has passed you by, you just might discover your reason to live.

ReplyDeleteI love how she said 'that's all you need in knitting, a girlfriend to get you started', that's exactly how i got started! :)

I do want to see it! I do, I do!
ReplyDeleteYears ago, Julia Roberts bought yarn for a project from my friend's LYS in Chicago. Pia and The Yarn Boutique may be gone, but the funny story Pia told about this has always left me with a soft spot in my heart for Ms. Roberts. Great video!
ReplyDeleteknitting is way cooler now that I know Julia does it. :) my chin just raised a little bit higher.
ReplyDeleteThat's All you need, a girlfriend to get you started ... Love it!
ReplyDeleteI love Julie and Tom! The fact that she knits and he went to the trouble of pulling the prank...priceless! As a dislocated worker that hasn't had a call back in 7 months...I understand.
ReplyDeletei LOVE julia AND knitting! this movie is on my to see list. :)
ReplyDeleteDefinitely want to see it! Two dynamite actors in one film (and...one who knits. Perfect).

ReplyDeleteI'm dying to see this! I think it's so great that some stars are so down to Earth and willing to admit they're normal people. Knit on Julia!
ReplyDeleteGreat video! Ha! I've been wanting to see the movie- can Julia and Tom go wrong? I think not!
ReplyDeleteLooks like a fun time!
ReplyDeleteI really want to see this movie, but I think my husband will consider it a "chick flick." He might come with me if the tickets were free - OR, I'll just treat my sister and go with her. In any case, I agree with Julia that knitting is "social." I've always said you can carry on a conversation while you knit, but not while your head is buried in a book! Thanks for the chance to win!
ReplyDeleteThat clip is hilarious! I love Tom & Julia. This movie is on my "must-see" list
ReplyDeleteLove Tom Hanks and winning would be fab.

ReplyDeleteIt is so much fun to see "guys" trying to look like they are knitting! I taught my daughter and son to knit when they were young. My daughter will sometimes pick up the needles but my son hasn't since that summer. Thanks for posting the video.

That was way to cute. Julia Roberts movies never disappoint.
ReplyDeleteHow fun! I'd love the chance to see it. thank you
ReplyDeleteFun video of Julia,,,she's one of many actresses in L.A. that knit.
ReplyDeleteThank you for posting this video - it is a hoot!
ReplyDeleteIn addition to the "girlfriend" line, I liked Julia's question: "Are we this far ahead of schedule?"
I also liked Tom's comment about not more smoking. There is such truth in that. Doing something like knitting can help to keep one's mind off of less health vices such as smoking and (in my case) mindless overeating.
What a fun post - thanks, again!
How cute, thanks for sharing that video! I'd love to see the movie!
ReplyDeletebahaha... my favorite line is 'you're knitting me!'
ReplyDeleteThat is such a great clip, I love it!
ReplyDeleteThat was a great clip. Thanks for sharing.

I haven't picked up my needles in a while and then out of the blue I felt like browsing a local yarn shop. I found some beautiful yarn and...here I go again. It feels good.

ReplyDeleteI have seen pictures of this prank but not the video. Classic!!!
ReplyDelete"All you need in knitting is a girlfriend to get you started." How true is that??
Thanks for sharing, I must post that video on my blog!! Made me laugh aloud.
ReplyDeleteGreat post!!!
ReplyDeleteI have a pattern somewhere...from quite a while ago when a magazine did an article on Julie and her knitting. It was for a multi-stripped sweater pattern that she was knitting while on the set of another movie. I think it may have been McCall's magazine. I knit one up for my daughter. Now...I will have to go in search of and dig it out!
Thanks for sharing...I just love her laugh...makes me smile :-D
I love Julia Roberts and love the fact she is a knitter. I had read she was going to be the lead in "The Friday Night Knit Club", easier role to play a knitter if you are a knitter.
ReplyDeleteCan't wait ti see Larry Crowne.
