this and that

After two attempts at each sleeve, I finally finished the gathered cuff cardi. It wasn't the eyelet rows that gave me the trouble, (although that did require reading that part of the pattern over and over until it finally sunk in) it was just my lack of focusing. Forgetting the increases all the way up the sleeve. Doing the decreases every other row instead of every 4th row like the pattern states. Hate when that happens. I plan on sewing this baby together today.
Last weeks cookie was quinoa cloud cookies. I have never used quinoa flour. Nor have I ever toasted my flour. Happy to try something new. I also used a really delicious chocolate bar that I have been holding onto for the perfect use. And this was pretty much it.
Just as expected no cute little cloud cookie cutter in my "cookie cutter collection". I seem to have a lot of holiday cutters.
I thought about cutting them into the shape of butterflies or stars and moons or flowers, but in the end opted for a plain old circle. Mostly because it was my grandmothers. And since I don't really use cookie cutters all that often, I wanted to use hers.
I packed the last of these in lunches this morning.... as I packed my last round of lunches of the '09-'10 school year! A half day tomorrow is all we have.

Have a great day!

Do you block the pieces before sewing together or after? I am knit deep in baby blankets at the moment but a sweater is my next project.

  4. I had to do a double-take on the cookie cutters. They look like an art piece of some sort. You certainly have a fantastic eye for color and design.

BTW, I love the tile and rubber ducky header. Quite perfect.

  5. Congrats on the sweater (almost) and the school ending & summer beginning (almost). I've never made quinoa either although I do have a bunch from Costco sitting in my pantry. It's sort of a 'scary' thing to cook since it's unknown to me. Love those cookies. Thanks for the other cookie link awhile ago - just made some today!

  10. They're out already?! I'm half excited about that prospect, half dreading it. Things are so busy this time of year - we go from one event to the next to the next to the next and can't really enjoy any of them. But then, suddenly... nothing!

Can't wait to see the cardi!

  15. Can quinoa flour be substituted for white flour in recipes? I'd love to be able to bake again, but cannot tolerate white flour.

  18. Looking forward to seeing the finished sweater. You always do such beautiful work, and that's a lovely shade of blue.

I have my mother's round cutter that looks like that. Hers has a small round insert for the middle so it can be used for cutting donuts and "holes."

  19. A new cardi--congrats! Things aren't so advanced here... I just finished a ribbed scarf for Chris. I enjoyed knitting with Rowan Lima. The scarf is a pretty blue and very soft.

I love quinoa, but haven't ever seen the flour. I might have to try some quinoa cloud cookies myself. Love the name.

  20. Quinoa is yummy but I didn't know it was available as flour. Good tip!

I just had my first experience with CEY's directions because a friend was knitting the Firefly scarf. Holy cow! The directions were really condensed and abbreviated (I guess to save space?) and my poor friend could not figure it out. Fortunately I checked for errata. CEY posted an addendum on their website to clarify the pattern. Once I read that, I was finally able to make sense. I wonder, do you find that CEY's patterns require extra attention?

I'm looking forward to seeing your next set of headless photos. :-)
