finished

Tuesday, February 23, 2010

It was one of those weekends. Where the beauty was all around and the skiing was fantastic. Where fires where made as well as hot cocoa. Where the knitting needles clanked in the morning over coffee and in the evening over wine. And now, I am ready for it all to go away. For the snow to melt and the flowers to bloom. I would be happy to put the skis away until next year. Yep, I'm ready for spring.
At the beginning of February, I made a mental list of projects I wanted to complete. Mostly knitting for others. However, on that list was my kusha kusha habu scarf that I started last february. I told myself that I was not going to let myself cast on for anything, for myself, until that was finished. And then I really thought about it. And I decided that I really didn't want to work on that project. Why knit on something you don't want to? Life is way to short. And there are SO many things I want to make.

SO.... here is the deal. I want to send this to someone who has been yearning to make one. I mean really yearning. The merino/stainless section is completed , and I have about 5 inches of the stainless knit. I am pretty sure there are about 22 more inches to knit on size 3 needles. I want to explain that this is a very fine piece of "yarn". To call it "thread" would be more like it. And...it is black. So, sort of hard to see. I also don't recommend this for a beginner. Only because you may be likely to get so frustrated it would end your knitting career for life. I would hate for that to happen.
SO... I will send this to the first person who leaves me a comment who has been yearning to make a kusha kusha habu scarf. And only wants to make half of it. :)

  7. Life is most definitely too short to spend it knitting something you don't truly enjoy!

    Sounds like a marvelous weekend.

  8. What a wonderful way to relieve yourself of that obligation. Corinne will surely enjoy it and you do not have it hanging over your head anymore. Congrats to both of you.

  10. This is the closest I'll ever come to winning an Oscar, a Nobel, a Pulitzer...so excited! And I do know how to spell, I was just in such a flurry to get my comment in that I didn't proofread! So excited! I'm Florida-bound in March and will have lots of sun for small needles and challenging yarn! Thank you so much - and of course I'll send pictures when it's done! xo

  12. I too am working on a kusha kusha scarf. I'm in the home stretch and I have to say I had no idea what I'd gotten myself into. It is a slow go, which would make it a perfect travel knit as it is so light weight. Congrats Corinne!

  17. Yes, I'm ready for spring too. Some warm sunshine sounds pretty good right now!
I'm sure your scarf will find a good home. Not with me though. Me and super thin yarn do not get along all that well. LOL!

  18. Oh, I so admire you for doing this. I trudged through mine, hating it all the way, then feeling stupid because I should love it, right? I mean, the Kusha love? Everyone who makes one says how awesome they are - EXCEPT ME! And now you apparently.... The weekend photos look fabulous! Have fun tomorrow....

Oh, heck, I don't know what I'm talking about anymore. See? This is why I can't blog. I'm plain ol' nuts. Glad you're home, though!

Congratulations, Corinne! We will all wait anxiously to see the completely project! Way to go, Leslie!!! I am knitting my daughter a Central Park Hoodie with yarn that is like 10 strands of thread, not spun together well at all, at it is driving me crazy! I would quit except for the fact she is LOVING it. Darn! Trudge on for me; you lucky girl!!!!

The skiing trip looks wonderful! I would love to see photos of the lodge with the fire and you knitting by it! That would put me in a more happy, cozy frame of mind. I sm SOOOOOOOOOO tired of this unusually cold Southern winter!!!~Jan

  27. whew...good for you and great for corinne. I wanted to leave a comment, but did not want to it to be confused with wanting to be the habu finisher...so glad you found a willing recipient. I think it's so great that in your honesty about what you are willing to spend your time on (and not spend your time on) that you've blessed someone else in the process.

  28. Looks as if the skiing was AWESOME! We have more snow on the way...all I want is one snow day for the boys. Then spring can come!

and i have So done the "life is too short" excuse when i've got projects that aren't speaking to me these days. it is so true - esp with all the wonderful patterns and gorgeous yarns swimming around in my brain :)

  33. That snowy picture is so beautiful. I think I could stand year-round winter if I had such a beautiful view!

  34. I have the silk stainless for that scarf but still haven't cast on! I hope the winner enjoys it. that snow is beautiful.

  35. sounds like a fabulous weekend. the best part about getting away is being able to enjoy your family - and some knitting - without thinking about any household chores. good for you for making the decision to knit what makes you happy! and for making someone else happy in the process!

  38. Heh... I have the yarn and keep meaning to start it... one of these days. Good for you for realizing that you need to move on, but I sincerely hope I don't end up posting the same post in a couple of years!

    ReplyDelete
  39. Looks like you have your person. I've seen some beautiful ones over the years, but I've never thought I could get through it without poking my eyes out. Which is funny because I have some super thin habu that I bought at one point.

As for winter, I'm so not finished!! I want a few more weeks of good snow so I can ski 2 more times.

    ReplyDelete
  40. I might just throw my size three needles in the garbage. There are obviously more patient folks in the world than I!:)

    ReplyDelete
  41. How inspiring just to move on like that...almost liberating. We all have THOSE projects that weigh use down - year after year!

    ReplyDelete
  42. Funny you posted this. I bought 2 Habu yarns in late December to do this very scarf. Mine are black & dark charcoal colors. I guess this might be a good kick in the pants for me to get started with it.

  43. Yeah i think so too. A brilliant idea from you.

  44. i don't want to be the person who wins...just wanted to say hi and agree that i too am ready for spring...and i totally agree that life is way to short to spend it knitting something that doesn't bring you joy!

  45. I knew it was too late (I'm so slow on the blog entries some days/weeks), so I will label this still as a someday project. I actually had an idea for making this or something like it a year or two ago and it just lay fallow (fermenting) in my mind.

Instead, I think I will make cookies this weekend. Yum!

  47. Whoa I love your picture of the trees - I only dream of scenery like that. All we have is sand. Boo hiss.

And dang I missed out on a superb opportunity - I don't even know where one gets habu thread!
