farmers market cardi
Thursday, February 04, 2010I received a comment this week that said, "Interesting blog. I'll come back whenever I am in the mood for headless portraits and cookie pics". I laughed out loud!
I am SO happy this sweater is finished. I mentioned the finishing being a major problem for me with this project. I actually think that I would have mentally preferred if the shawl collar would have been in a category all to itself. You know what I mean? Because, by the time I make it to the FINISHING section of a pattern, I feel as if I am nearly finished. Not that I have another week (at least) to invest in a project. I know you know what I mean.
Other than that, this project was a dream. A lot of stockinette. Perfect.
Of course, my favorite feature is the pocket. Keys, lens cap, phone. The yarn is seriously delicious and makes it super warm. I will get a lot of use out of it as a "coat".

And, oh! The silly putty came out with goo gone! (Thanks to all who suggested that.) My friend, Jan, recommended that I knit a swatch, stick silly putty to it, spray with goo gone, and wash. PERFECT idea. It worked, so I never had to give it another thought while knitting. Thank you, Jan.

This sweater is so beautiful! You always do such a wonderful job, what a great knitter you (inspirational!)
ReplyDeleteI don't tune in for the headless pics and cookies shots; however, I do enjoy hearing stories about your family, seeing your knitting and who can resist cookies?
Isn't it nice when people stop by to share...?
ReplyDeleteLovely sweater. I have given that one the eyeball, too!
That sweater looks like it was worth it. Really nice!
ReplyDeleteSeriously awesome.
ReplyDeleteAnd hilarious comment!:)
Sometimes I just laugh at comments that are left, too. I think your photos (and the knits in them) and cookies are fabulous! I love how your sweater turned out!
ReplyDeleteThat sweater is so cute! The cabled pockets are so unique. How beautiful! Even the headless shots :)
ReplyDeleteOh my this is just too pretty for words. I know you are gonna love wearing it.
ReplyDeletePeace~
Dawn
You did a great job! I always make baby sweater because I always seem to get the size wrong for me. So I have adult sweater envy!
ReplyDeleteWhat a weirdo! Who doesn't like cookies? And you in great sweaters, headless or not?! What if you didn't have a head? Did he ever think of that? What if you were like, the headless horseman or something? It's very discriminatory is what it is. So rude. In this day and age, too. Hmph.
ReplyDelete.
Beautiful!! I thought that sweater was beautiful in the magazine and yours turned out even lovelier!
ReplyDeletei LOVE this. and i laughed at the headless photo comment -- most of mine are headless too, partially for anonymity, but mostly because we're knitters! the details we want to see are below the neck!
ReplyDeleteand boy, is this sweater stunning. lovely knitting.
Beautiful sweater. I love the way the patterned collar comes down to trim the pockets. How many hand knit sweaters do you have now Leslie? Do you wear them all the time? I have one that I knit for myself and I wear it often. I hope to knit more sweaters because I enjoy knitting them and they are wonderful to wear.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful sweater! I'm happy to see someone else that likes to make sweaters.
ReplyDeletefyi - I made the blondies into drop cookies this last time, everyone liked them. Thanks for posting the cookie of the week, it gives me ideas.
leslie, it is really beautiful! nice work.
ReplyDeletewhom ever that was just didn't get it...the shots are about the project knitted not the wearer! What an idiot. Oh and by the way I have a BIG cookie monster in my house so I'm always looking for new cookie recipes. Keep them coming!
ReplyDeleteHow beautiful! I love the detail! I'm sure this will end up being one of your "go-to" cardigans!
ReplyDeleteYou have a healthier outlook than I do - I got so tired of the wierd comments I disabled comments. Maybe I shouldn't take myself so seriously and laugh about it like you do and then move on!
*rolls eyes* at the comment left by the donkey.
ReplyDeleteLove your cardi the yarn was a perfect choice.
Indeed, it looks not easy to knit! And you did it! Bravo! Superbe!
ReplyDeleteThe cardigan turned out just beautifully! I love the cable detailing, and it looks cozy.
ReplyDeleteThat comment is hilarious! I laughed out loud, too. Muggles...
BTW, how did the Green Line do when being washed? I had one of the early batches, and it bled and bled and bled, so I haven't gone back, even though I think Lorna's has reformulated it.
Oh! Lurve this to death! The pockets are fabulous (and the belt and the boots). So inspirational that I may even go find my knitting.
ReplyDeleteP.S. I am totally here for the cookies and headless photos.
Lovely! This one is on my to do list! I do headless pics too, LOL!!!
ReplyDeleteLovely sweater. And as for me, keep the portraits coming, headless or no, and the cookie recipes too!
ReplyDeleteWow! I love that sweater- I've never seen it before. For some reason it looks like it was knit with smaller yarn. I was so surprised when I read that the yarn is worsted on size 8s. Hmmmm... Maybe this sweater is in my future! I even have 4 skeins of that yarn in my stash..
ReplyDeleteWhat a gorgeous sweater, I love the pockets. Beautiful colour as well.
ReplyDeleteYay! ! I love goo gone - so glad it worked for you! This might just be my favorite knit of yours -really beautiful - I love pockets, too. I am going to scratch over "finishing" on my pattern and write "collar" - maybe it won't be so intimidating. Ok, girl, what's next for you?? Can't wait to see.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful job. I love the Green Line Worsted, it's extra smooshy and soft. Congrats on getting the silly putty out of it too!
ReplyDeleteTotally cute--worth all the trouble!
ReplyDeleteThis is so next on my list!
ReplyDeleteIt looks terrific!
This is BEAUTIFUL! I am so envious of people who are able to knock off sweaters - I still haven't finished my first!
ReplyDeleteI love your headless pics because they are of beautiful sweaters!! Enjoy the cookies too. I really like your style and you have been an inspiration to me. I have many knitting projects I can't wait to do because of you! Thanks!
ReplyDeleteGreat headless picture... I mean, gorgeous sweater!!! Congratulations and enjoy wearing it!
ReplyDeleteThis has turned out beautifully, and looks super comfy too. Enjoy wearing it, I know I would!
ReplyDeleteIt looks great! Congrats on its completion. I loved this sweater in the magazine and was looking forward to seeing the photos of your finished sweater. Beautiful!
ReplyDeleteObviously that commenter doesn't realize that it takes real talent to take a good headless photo.
ReplyDeleteLove the sweater, Leslie. Can't wait to see the next project you have up your sleeve.
Huh. I love your pics and have been making your chocolate chip cookies for months (converting friends to bread flour as I go).
ReplyDeleteI might knit a sweater, an adult sweater, one of these days because you make it look and sound fun.
Fun. Hmmm.
Beautiful!
ReplyDeleteI love the one in the magazine, but yours has a beautiful colour!
Have a great weekend!
Lovely cardigan.
ReplyDeleteLooks really beautiful, lovely colour choice - have had my eye on this pattern - if I do get round to it I'll try to remember that when I get to finishing that bit is going to take some time - given that I always underestimate it anyway in my hope that the FO is close - quite some time!
ReplyDeleteLove the pockets. Such a nice and useful detail.
ReplyDeleteThe cardigan is so lovely and elegant, I'm glad you did finish it after all! :)
ReplyDeleteLeslie, it looks fantastic! Knowing yours was done, I was inspired to get cranking on the collar. I'm 3/4 done with one side. With the snow in the forecast maybe I'll finish it so I can start wearing mine soon too.
ReplyDeleteLove this ! Now I am tempted to make it - so many things to knit - so little time ! The color is great !
ReplyDeleteLooks great, I love it, even on a headless person.
ReplyDeleteIt's so fabulous Leslie, looks gorgeous on your headless self. Funny, I didn't notice this much in the magazine but now that I see a real one I love it and can imagine wearing it a lot. Might have to re-visit..
ReplyDeletewow, stunning work!! I love to come here to get inspired - so much so that I cast on for my first sweater a couple weeks ago and already knit a yoke. Sooner than I ever imagined I'll have a headless hand-knit sweater person on my blog - thanks to you!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful sweater - it looks so cozy. And lovely headless shot - haha, comments are funny sometimes! I am so glad the silly putty came out!
ReplyDeleteheadless and cookies... ha
ReplyDeleteI really love the pockets on that sweater and I totally agree about a finishing section. I'm expecting to finish very quickly once I get there. It's a mental thing.
Goo Gone is awesome. I would have been afraid it would stain. I'm so glad it worked for you because that is one beautiful knit. I cracked up when I read that comment about headless photos too. You look beautiful in that sweater (even without a head).
ReplyDeleteThis sweater is beautiful! I'm totally a novice knitter, and I get so inspired whenever you post.
ReplyDeleteI love this sweater (and headless is totally in)!
ReplyDeleteThe sweater is gorgeous and I really love the color!

Beautiful!!! Love those pockets. I'm so glad the silly putty came out!
ReplyDeleteI will confess to getting excited about the cookie pictures every time I see one.
ReplyDeleteI love that sweater--I've been thinking about it for a while, especially because of the pockets. Good to read your thoughts on it.
Your sweater looks amazing. The shawl collar was definitely worth the effort!
ReplyDeleteYou did a beautiful job. I had fogotten about that green line worsted. I did like it when we had it at the store. I hope you remember too that I'm one of your biggest fans - I love your blog!
ReplyDeleteAdorable! The pocket is great. You are my knitting hero.
ReplyDeleteYour cardigan looks so pretty and so comfortable! Great job on the finishing! You did that super fast!
ReplyDeleteIt's gorgeous, Leslie!
ReplyDeleteIt's beautiful! Congratulations on finishing it--and on successfully removing the silly putty!
ReplyDeleteGorgeous. Makes me want to knit one! (And I love your portraits - headless or not - and your cookie shots and recipes.)

ReplyDeleteIt's DONE! YAY! And looks so fabulous - isn't it fun to knit pockets?!
ReplyDeleteI'll be back whenever I'm in the mood for some awesome knitting pics. With cookies. :-)
You (and the sweater, of course) look fabulous! I've been checking this pattern out for a while - your one is so inspiring! :o)
ReplyDeleteLike everyone else, love the sweater. The pockets really are a great feature. Well done!
ReplyDeleteLove your sweater! The color is great with your jeans which is what I'd be wearing a sweater like that with. Gotta go check out some yarn and that pattern now. Thanks!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful - and now I have to add it to my rav queue...sigh.
ReplyDeleteBEAUTIFUL!! And well worth the extra finishing effort. Just beautiful!!
ReplyDeleteit is glorious!

Hello Leslie,
ReplyDeletehow are you?
I think the pockets of this cardi are great and useful! Very nice!
the comment you receive, on the top of the post, make me laugh :-) I never noticed, since now, that it's true: your pics are always headless! :-)
Those pockets are great! Another great knit.
ReplyDeleteGorgeous. You've inspired me to try something with pockets for my next project. Mm, pockets.
ReplyDeleteThat is gorgeous. The collar is worth it!
ReplyDeletelooks perfect, as do all your sweater projects!
ReplyDeletetoo funny!!! Someone stopped by a friend of mine's blog the other day to tell her 'the knitting is getting so much better than it used to be'. Is that a compliment?? lol!!
ReplyDeleteIt looks so warm and cozy. I really like the variation in the yarn. Gives it some good depth
ReplyDeletelove it! you did a fabulous job...the pockets are my favorite part too with that cable.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful sweater.
ReplyDeleteI'm a pessimist, I would have taken the comment the other way around. Glad to see how you handled it. A good lesson for me :)
The sweater is gorgeous and the fit is perfect.
ReplyDeleteWow, and it has pockets...Too cute!
HAHA! Headless portraits. My ENTIRE blog is headless portraits...there's nothing wrong with that, right?!
ReplyDeleteWhat a beautiful sweater. You must feel like all the finishing was worth it, because, seriously, that is an amazing sweater. Those pockets are so cool!
Beautiful! The color is so wonderful. It looks as if it was totally worth the time and trouble!
ReplyDeleteThis is so beautiful. The colors, the lines, everything. Gorgeous
ReplyDeleteOh, and I happen to love pictures of cookies. I enjoy eating them more, but pictures are good too :)
I enjoy reading your blog very much. You sweater is simply stunning! And there's nothing wrong with headless shots and cookie pics. The more the merrier I say!

Seeeeee! Knew you'd finish it toot sweet! And it's just lovely - even without your head!!
ReplyDeletejust like always, your sweater is gorgeous. i am SO happy that the silly putty came out (right on, jan!) and the finishing is finished!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful sweater, I wished we could get that beautiful pattern over here in Holland !
ReplyDeleteIsn't that nice? I had to 'approve' may comments after I got someone being nasty about my grammer!
ReplyDeleteLOVE the cardi! That pattern has caught my eye before - now yours is giving me a double take. Love it!
I love it for you!! It's always a great feeling to try it on and twirl around!
ReplyDeleteThe sweater looks great!
ReplyDeleteDon't give the rude comment another thought. I'm pretty sure you're not, but it's annoying when people think that blogs are made to entertain ONLY THEM.
Ya know what I mean?
Keep the cookie recipes coming. :-)
That comment is too funny - some people just don't jet us do they? :D
ReplyDeleteYour sweater is fab btw!
Gorgeous! You have a way of making knits look way better than even the official modeled pattern shot! :)
ReplyDeleteabsolutely gorgeous. you never cease to amaze me, you talented thing you! :)
ReplyDeleteYour sweater looks great and I like your headless shots, in fact I may just have to copy them for my sweater photos. I had this pattern in my Ravelry queue, in fact I just tried to cast on to make one, but got frustrated with the invisible provisional cast on that I'd never done before. I decided I was too tired to start something new.
ReplyDeleteThat is a gorgeous sweater! Thanks for sharing.
ReplyDeleteOh that Connie is such a talent. You did such beautiful job, I want one!
ReplyDeleteVery funny comment. It's beautiful! Your sweaters always turn out so wonderful:)
ReplyDeleteabsolutely love it! just another in a long list of favorites you've created. and all the piecing was worth it!!
ReplyDeleteI'm quite fond of your headless portraits and cookie pix. :)
ReplyDeleteyour sweater is gorgeous. love how the pockets are done.
ReplyDelete¡que cardigan tan bonito!
ReplyDeleteun abrazo,
SIONA
I liked that before I saw yours, but it's now on the Rav queue - I just need 48 hours a day to get round to it.
ReplyDeleteThis is fantastic! I love the detail around the collar! Great job! One day...soon enough...I will be knitting cardis galore...until then, you will be an inspiration!
ReplyDeleteI'm not sure why people drift through blogs if it isn't just for a chance to peek into the inner sanctum of another's thinking process. Because that's what I view blogs as....a thinking process.
ReplyDeleteAnd it's actually a very personal thing....our thoughts, ramblings, musings, concerns and contemplations.
So, with that....I enjoy your blog...it's a slice of life gone by.
The coat looks very delicate and stylish.Good to know that it is also sufficiently warm.
ReplyDeleteYour sweater turned out beautifully! I recently bookmarked your blog and had a good laugh as I had noticed the same.
ReplyDeleteOh my gosh, it turned out beautifully!
ReplyDeleteAnd that comment? Ha! The things people come up with.
What a beautifull Cardi, looks so dressy yet so casual and cozy. Nice job!
ReplyDeleteI just discovered your blog too, and I must say I love your headless photos and all the cookie shots. Its exactly what I need to pep me up, keep up the excellent job - PS all your knitting makes me very jelous!
ReplyDeleteI'm far to naive - I really don't see that that comment was mean. To me it was just a silly, funny comment. It's precisely the sort of thing I'd post without ever thinking anyone'd think I meant it as a negative. (It wasn't me btw!)
ReplyDeleteDaniel, yea I can see what you did there. I actually liked that part, but hehe I'm not that harsh like my dad with these things. He at all times tells me crazy stories again in the day and calls me a loser. I assume it's time I transfer out of my parents' basement LOL. Aaanyways, what about you? what does your dad assume xD" Anyway, in my language, there usually are not much good source like this.
ReplyDeleteCompletely perceive what your stance on this matter. Although I would disagree on some of the finer particulars, I believe you did an superior job explaining it. Certain beats having to research it on my own. Thanks. Anyway, in my language, there aren't a lot good supply like this.
ReplyDeleteThank you for the wise critique. Me & my neighbour have been getting ready to do a little analysis about that. We received an excellent guide on that matter from our local library and most books where not as influensive as your information. I am very glad to see such information which I used to be searching for a protracted time. This made very glad! Anyway, in my language, there aren't a lot good source like this.
ReplyDeletePlease inform me it labored proper? I dont wish to sumit it again if i would not have to! Either the blog glitced out or i'm an idiot, the second option doesnt shock me lol. thanks for an ideal blog! Anyway, in my language, there are not much good source like this.
ReplyDeleteYour weblog is fine. I simply need to comment on the design. Its too loud. Its doing method too much and it takes away from what youve got to say --which I feel is admittedly important. I dont know if you happen to didnt suppose that your phrases may hold everyones attention, however you have been wrong. Anyway, in my language, there usually are not much good source like this.
