the other side
Tuesday, September 01, 2009So, school has been back in session for a week. And I think I am finally feeling good about the new routine. I'm not sure why, but I felt a little lost when they went back this year. Even though I was able to jam my music, it still seemed quiet. A little too quiet. Suddenly it seemed as if all that "stuff" I really wanted to do didn't seem nearly as important. In fact, I couldn't even remember what it was I wanted to do. I know, sounds crazy. Trust me, it didn't last long. Kim reminded me that I loved to bake. And knit!
This is the other side of the long coat. The side with the circular design. I know, it looks a little strange to me, also. I am trusting it will block correctly.
As I brought in these tomatoes on Sunday afternoon, Charlie gasped and said "please, no more tomato pie". I will make it again (for the third time) but I promised not to make him eat it. You should try it, though. It is really fabulous.

I can't wait to see how that sweater turns out! When I saw it in the magazine I couldn't figure it out. It looks so fun!
ReplyDeleteOh, yes, we've been eating that very same tomato corn pie too--it really is heavenly!
ReplyDeleteI do love reading your blog I must say!
I have loads of tomatoes this week so tomato pie it will be.
ReplyDeleteThe long coat seems like one of those "forever" projects. So, large that it just takes time. You are getting there though!
ReplyDeleteMy tomatoes are gone, darn it! I have never seen or heard of tomato pie, and oh my goodness...
ReplyDeleteYou are missing your kids because as they become older, they actually become more like your friends. Trust me, after 6 (some still growing up, but some already grown) I know this well. They are your heart!
This sweater is looking great, I can see the vision! I have been knitting my fingers to the bones because I recently realized how very close Christmas is, and how many things I want to make for it. Gosh, anyway to add more knitting time to the day? I have actually quit reading books in order to knit!~Jan
I agree with Jan...they're older and starting not to need as much. Even though they have been fighting these past few weeks,I'm going to miss them next week.
ReplyDeleteThat recipe has been printed off and sitting on the counter waiting for me to make it this week! Now even more motivated seeing how much you enjoy it!
ReplyDeleteyou are so fast with your knitting...I think the sweater is looking great! Looks just like the one in the magazine - perfect. I'm glad you're settling into the new routine that school brings. Thanks for sharing the pie recipe. It sounds fabulous! (although I think I'm the only one here who would eat it!)
ReplyDeleteI just love how your jacket perfectly matches those tomatoes...this is such a great blog! That same tomato pie recipe is in my queue...I need to get baking!
ReplyDelete"Please, no more tomato pie" Hehe, too funny, well, maybe not to Charlie... I'm really excited to see that sweater finished- it has some fantastic construction going on!
ReplyDeleteIt's always a big adjustment here for us when the kids go back to school - and one of them is going to college. Local, thankfully.
ReplyDeleteI'm looking forward to seeing how your long coat comes together. :)
I am in my third week with maternity leave, without the baby arriving yet. So I think I know the feeling.... That sweather looks interesting, and I look forward to see how it turns out!
ReplyDeleteyup, this is our second week back to school also, the 6am wake-up is already getting to me (yawn)! BUT, I am enjoying the quiet days I must be honest... being able to get on with housework, and then knit a little is quite the treat for me.
ReplyDeleteMy yarn should arrive today, I can't wait to get started on my cardi.
That pie looks delish!
i am feeling totally lost with all the blah, blahs you can think of, and yet, it's only been 2 days since school got in. Thanks for reminding me that I need to find my new rhythm!
ReplyDeletemissed you!!!
I sometimes feel similar to what you've described. Like you want to do something but at the same time, dont? I'm glad you're coming out the other side. :)
ReplyDeleteMy kids start back after Labor Day...I will miss them and the summer. Although...more knitting time for me.
ReplyDeleteYou could always try tomato sauce on pasta - we have been making buckets, eating some and freezing the rest - they never seem to get sick of tomato pasta! Great to discover your blog!

ReplyDeletei love september! can't wait to see what you bake and your finished knits.
ReplyDeletei have a hundred things to do and can't seem to get to any of them. two major things on the needles, plus a hat. bags to finish and yard work. ugg. just happy it is september. i love this time of year. can't wait to see your sweater! and i love the color!
ReplyDeleteOK, I can't believe I'm going to say this... but I think I'm with Charlie on this one... if you're gonna go to the effort of making a crust, and rolling it out and blah blah blah... there's gotta be sugar involved.
ReplyDeleteI join you tomorrow in the ranks of the in-schoolers, and think what you endured is called decompression. It's akin to re-entry, but with more air. The trick is to learn to enjoy it before soccer and homework and piano and and and all kick in.
i am feeling the same way this week, and glad to see you came out of it okay. hope i am where you are by next week!
ReplyDeletelove your honesty.
ReplyDeletelove that you're finding a new rhythm.

ReplyDeleteThanks for the link to that great recipe. I must try it out.
Anyone would feel lost and a bit unsure where to turn should they suddenly find themselves without their three close companions and friends with whom you spent marvelous summer days. But you demonstrate you are woman as well as mother with your passion and interests. The long coat will be so beautiful. So, go ahead. Turn up the music and dance while the hours are all yours! Young feet will soon come home in greeting. :)
ReplyDeleteMy children don't return to school until next week, but I can relate to the feeling - the transition can be tough.
ReplyDeleteThe tomato pie sounds awesome! I wonder if I could convince my family to try it? :o)
My husband has picked up ingredients for the tomato corn pie today, and I'm hoping to make it for dinner tonight. It will be an anodyne for a weekend full of very rich desserts.
ReplyDeleteHappy September to you too!
ReplyDeleteI had the opposite feeling when my son went back to school. Now it's a matter of figuring out where to start!

ReplyDeletePoor Charlie, my kids feel the same way about basically all vegetables, sadly.
ReplyDeleteOh yes the bitter sweet start of the school year. I'm feeling it a little too with my son entering his senior year. I like the way Rachel explained it - decompression. It makes sense to me now!
