jeeves always knows
Sunday, May 10, 2009I e-mailed my mom this photo earlier this week:
You see, I ask my mom advice on almost everything. My sisters and I have nicknamed my mother Jeeves. And when we need to know an answer to anything we don't know, we say, "better call Jeeves". It is amazing how she always knows the answer. I truly am so very blessed to have her.
So, I e-mailed her that photo because I told her I thought I needed to rip plisse back, again, and start the bottom over. I wasn't happy with how I was/am one stitch off in the back center pleat. Confused? Yes, I thought she was, too. Hence the photo. But mom said, "Leave it. It looks fine." So, that is what I am going to do. You know, Jeeves knows best.
Happy Mothers Day to all the Jeeves out there. Whether you have actually had children or not you are still someone's Jeeves.

I agree with Jeeves; no one will ever notice that. It's not worth ripping out. And what would you do differently? I hope you have a wonderful Mother's Day!
ReplyDeletewow! cheers on you - jeeves of your 3 :-)
ReplyDeleteIf you have to point it out with arrows, it isn't worth ripping (ha ha).
ReplyDeleteI completely agree with Jeeves - it looks wonderful and when you wear it you'll know that it holds a little handmade 'secret'.
Happy Mothers Day to you and yours!
i agree with jeeves. It looks great, and you are probably the only one who notices it anyhow. Happ Mom's Day to you too.
ReplyDeleteWell, if someone were to walk behind you with a magnifying glass, they MIGHT be able to see WHAT???? One tiny stitch over to one side, IF that is what you are talking about. Seriously, no mistakes can be seen to me! I think we need to call you Ms. Perfectionist! You will look great in that sweater and I can't wait to see it completed.
ReplyDeleteI am the Jeeves to 6, so I can relate.
Happy Mom's day to all,.
Here's to Jeeves;) Have a great Mother's Day;)
ReplyDeleteI have those same issues with needing the knitting to be perfect. It looks so minor, and incredibly beautiful
ReplyDeleteSo good the love of a mother who is friend and guide, advisor and mentor in all things wise!
ReplyDeleteHappy, happy Mom's Day! Let the Sun shine in!
Oh, I TOTALLY agree!! And Elizabeth offers some spectacular wisdom too -- "If you have to point it out with arrows, it isn't worth ripping." Let the sweater wearing commence!
ReplyDeleteHappy Mother's Day!
ReplyDeleteYour sweater is gorgeous, color luscious and perfect despite the one little thing which no one will notice! Enjoy wearing it!
Love your Jeeves story!
Happy Mother's Day to you!
ReplyDeletehappy mothers day,L...and yes,Jeeves is so right...leave it...
ReplyDeleteHappy Mother's Day! It looks great - is it finished?? I can't wait to see it!
ReplyDeleteI didn't even notice what was wrong until you said it exactly! Keep trusting your Jeeves!
ReplyDeleteYou've gotten lots of great advice. The sweater looks great!
ReplyDeleteHappy Mothers Day.
Happy Mother's Day to you and to your Mom and all the other "moms" in your life!!!! Enjoy your Mom - I have questions every day to ask my Mom - I miss her so much!!
ReplyDeleteMamas always have the best advice! I think it looks great!
ReplyDeleteI am with Jeeves - it looks great!:) Happy Mother's Day to a super mama!
ReplyDeleteJeeves was right - it looks great.
ReplyDeleteAnd thanks for that analogy. I feel like Jeeves sometimes. Except maybe not as patient...
Happy Mother's Day, Leslie!
ReplyDeletei am so glad that she said leave it, that makes so much sense...unless of course you put it under the magnifying glass and no one but us does that!
ReplyDeleteThe sweater looks perfect.
ReplyDeleteHappy Mother's Day to you. I hope you're enjoying your day. :-)
Mom's always right.
ReplyDeleteHave a lovely, sweet mama's day!
what a sweet story, perfect for this kinda day!
ReplyDeletehappy mothers day!
xo-kendall
I agree you should leave it! But I have a sneaking suspicion that you are going to reach the very last bit... and decide to rip back. THAT is when you need to listen to your mother, and hold fast. Happy Mother's Day - hope you had a lovely one!
ReplyDeleteI agree with your mom--looks great!
ReplyDeleteAs Elizabeth said, if you need arrows.... Mother knows best, yet again. As my Mum is no longer with us I ask my ten-year old boy, who is eagle eyed and blazingly honest "Can you see anything wrong with this?" Many is the time he's made me rip back and do it right, but lots of times he's said "Looks fine to me", too. Lovely colour, can't wait to see the finished garment.
ReplyDeleteCan you share her email with the rest of us? I'm certain we'd all like to ask Jeeves our knitting questions. : ) How nice to have such a great fondness for Mom.
ReplyDeleteLovely sweater. I cannot wait to see the whole sweater. My grandmother used to say, if it doesn't have an error, then it's not homemade ... I think of that often in my knitting. Yet, I tend to rip out all the time.
ReplyDeleteJeeves has so much wisdom. I agree with Jeeves too! Happy Mother's Day!
ReplyDeleteGlad Jeeves told you to leave it, I don't think it will show. There will be too many other lovely details drawing your eyes elsewhere.
ReplyDeleteHappy Mother's Day!
happy mother's day!
ReplyDeleteThat is so great! Why is it that moms know everything? Just comes with the territory I guess. I call my mom with all of my difficult questions too. Sad thing is that she doesn't knit or crochet. I have to lean on my crafty friends for those kind of questions. Everyhting else though...she's got me covered:)
ReplyDeleteHope you had a wonderful Mother's Day!!
how wonderful for you to have a mom to call with all the answers. :) hope you had a happy mother's day!
ReplyDeleteWhat a lovely colour - and I agree; it looks fine. So glad you have a Jeeves - and I'm sure your kids are glad they have one too.
ReplyDeleteHappy Mother's day! Your mom is right...no one will notice at all. The sweater is looking lovely.
ReplyDeleteMom's always know best! Though I think my mom is a Jeeves too. She always has great advice.
ReplyDeleteI think the sweater looks perfect as is. can't wait to see it!
oh, i love that story. i say leave it. i would have never noticed that...
ReplyDeleteYou are very right. I find myself looking to my mom for parenting advice more times than I care to admit. Although she raised twin girls....she seems to have all the answers on raising rambunctuous little boys.
ReplyDeletePS, I don't see any mistake in your knitting... but I guess that is just my green-ness showing through
what a fun post! I'm with your mom..leave it!
ReplyDeleteHappy Jeeves Day to you too! Hope you had a wonderful day. :)
ReplyDeleteaw! moms are the best! and isn't it amazing that with technology you are able to get and give knitting advice like that! there was a time when that was not possible!
ReplyDeletehope you had a wonderful Mother's Day. I love that you call your mom jeeves - thanks for sharing.
ReplyDeleteAren't moms the best!! I still call mine for advice too.
ReplyDeleteI can hardly wait to see your sweater, I love the clour!
I obviously am a bit more into the knitting than the wearing, because I don't go back to fix things like that (or the much more major things that happen in my knitting). I just speed on through, wear it or not, and get onto the next thing to knit. There are very few mistakes that are going to make something unwearable, especially if they are on the back!
ReplyDeleteOf course, this makes me sound very lackadaisical, but I'm not really that lazy about it. I just pick and choose which things will bother me and something that small that would take a huge amount of time and possibly brain power to go out and fix... not important enough to do!
She's always been my Jeeves, too.
ReplyDeleteHappy Mother's Day...or Jeeves Day! It is so good that you could ask your Mother quesions on knitting.
ReplyDeleteI always ask my Mum advice on cooking and baking, she such a great cook.
I agree with mum: it looks fine. Fine as in "my that's fine," not "gee, that's OK."
ReplyDeleteYes! Mothers know everything!! And I agree with yours -- Plisse looks lovely as is.
ReplyDeleteeveryone else has said it...leave it...no one will ever know.
ReplyDeleteI love this post, it made me smile and Jeeves is right, it's absolutely fine.
ReplyDeleteYup this post made me smile too. Happy Mother's Day!
ReplyDeleteShe makes a great Jeeves! I hope you both had a lovely Mothers day.
ReplyDeletefound this "purl of wisdom" in my stephanie pearl mcphee calendar this week...just for you!
ReplyDelete"lots of knitters decide whether or not to fix an error in a piece of knitting by using the galloping horse theory. that's to say that they don't correct any mistake you wouldn't be able to spot were you on the back of a galloping horse. I think this plan is just fine, unless you're going to be wearing the knitting while you're on the horse. then it's going to drive you nuts."
smiled and thought of you! it will be perfectly wonderful the way it is.
oh thank goodness you asked your mother - that would be crazy to rip back all that way for something like that.
ReplyDeleteI miss my mother!
ReplyDeleteIf you really cannot stand it the more you look at it(the knitters perfection syndrome -KPS), don't rip but drop that 2 stitches all the way down to the row that you want to do the correction, then use a crochet hood to bring the stitches back to the top.
Thank goodness for Jeeves
ReplyDeleteI think it's great you are able to take your mother's advice! I drive myself crazy with perfectionism... I have ripped back entire things because of 1 tiny mistake no one would ever notice but me.... for some reason it niggles at me and niggles at me... i really am trying to learn to let go a little more! it drives my husband insane!
ReplyDeleteHey cool weblog, just wondering what anti-spam software you use for comments because i get lots on my blog. Anyway, in my language, there should not much good supply like this.
ReplyDeleteEffectively, that is my very first go to for your weblog! We're a gaggle of volunteers and beginning a brand new initiative in a community within the same niche. Your weblog offered us helpful info to work on. You might have carried out a marvellous job! Anyway, in my language, there aren't much good source like this.
ReplyDeleteThere are definitely a lot of details like that to take into consideration. That may be a great point to deliver up. I supply the ideas above as normal inspiration however clearly there are questions just like the one you deliver up where an important thing can be working in trustworthy good faith. I don?t know if greatest practices have emerged around issues like that, but I am sure that your job is clearly identified as a fair game. Anyway, in my language, there are usually not much good source like this.
ReplyDeleteI really enjoy reading your blog as the postings are so simple to read and follow. Outstanding. Please keep it up. Thanks.

ReplyDeleteI've to say, I dont know if its the clashing colors or the bad grammar, but this blog is hideous! I mean, I dont wish to sound like a know-it-all or anything, but might you will have probably put slightly bit extra effort into this subject. Its really interesting, but you dont characterize it well at all, man. Anyway, in my language, there are usually not a lot good supply like this.
