Oh I was so excited when I saw this post was up, I've been waiting to see this one because of course, you always knit the things I want to knit! It's beautiful Leslie, I love the shape of this one and the yarn is perfect. It did occur to me that you could add a little popper in between those buttons but I would probably just wear it open or with the scarf. Gorgeous work once again.

Yes, you must have modified it quite a bit! It looks so much lovelier than the original. I'm always impressed when people take a pattern that I wouldn't think twice about and create something jaw-dropping!

You could also sew some invisible snaps in there between the buttons. That would take care of any gapping. I actually do that on my dress shirts sometimes, as I'm a skinny gal with ample boosiasms, and often have the pulling-accross-the-gals problem.

I love the cardigan and like you, I enjoy cardigans that can be worn as a coat. I would bet that the pulling might disappear with wear. Really great job...it is a beautiful knit and the color you chose is wonderful.

I think you made the right decision to nix the 6" ribbing at the bottom. The garter stitch border is much more flattering.

I love this sweater and the fact that it's almost a jacket makes it so versatile. Even with the button issue I think it's amazing. (I'd probably wear it unbuttoned, anyway, and your scarf solution is perfect.)

When sewing they often recommend that you put a button right at the bustline and then space the remainder of your buttons from there. I'm not sure I would have liked that solution here. You would have ended up with buttons very widely spaced or lots of smaller buttons. I like the size and number of buttons you have and the sweater is beautiful on you--truly inspiring! I have a couple of ideas but no clear way to express them in this type of forum.

me and a friend have issues with buttons since we have big breasts :) I usually don't even buy shirts, because the buttons will just pull. The other day she told me, she sews on "snaps" between buttons... They don't show outside of the shirt/sweater, but will be able to pull the two sides together. I am not sure if it will work with a knit piece, but it might be worth giving it a try...
