summertime saturdays.9
Saturday, August 16, 2008This was probably my kids favorite Saturday morning during the entire summer. Because they got to eat fruit loops. Only at grandmas. Still nice and slow. With actually nothing planned all day. Fresh fruit for me. Sweet pineapple, ice cold watermelon and juicy ripe peaches. Oh! And coffee. That I drank out of one of my parents souvenir coffee cups. Australia today. Does anyone else have parents that collect those souvenir coffee cups from the places they visit? I wasn't a fan of them for a long time, but now I treasure them. And the stories that go along with them. I just might have to purchase a Florida coffee cup.
Enjoy your Saturday. And the rest of your weekend.

One of my favorite mugs is a souvenir mug I got on vacation...it's got palm trees on it...good memories! Have a great week!
ReplyDeleteUm, I hate to admit it, but I freakin LOVE frootloops (but I only allow myself to eat them when we go camping).
ReplyDeleteEnjoy the weekend!
I find that the older I get, the more things from childhood I love. Except Fruit Loops - Ick!
ReplyDeleteYour kids were no doubt in heaven today! My fave cereal to eat at Grandma's was 'Sugar Pops' which now have been renamed 'Corn Pops' (as if that makes them less bad for you!).
ReplyDeleteOh, and you and Keana Lee are ON, once school gets going I am meeting you girls at Knit One pronto!!
We collect souvenir magnets. They take up less space. But I actually think coffe mugs are an awesome idea.
ReplyDeleteHave a wonderful time in Florida! (And I don't think I've ever before seen such a pretty picture of Fruit Loops...!)
ReplyDeletesorry L-I'm with Kim-Ick! on the fruit loops...
ReplyDeleteOur family does T-Shirts that usually are only worn by the little ones. At one time my whole family had matching St.Thomas shirts. There might be a picture somewhere...
ReplyDeleteSpeaking of travel, coffee, and souvenirs.,.my mom is a globe trekker and I am trying to convince her to bring back coffee beans from each place she goes instead of T-Shirts.
I agree with MadMad, your photo makes the Fruit Loops look de-lish!
I don't know the souvenir cups, but I love, when things have a history. Then the most ugly think can be beautiful. Have a nice sunday.
ReplyDeletethe girls just got home from camp grandma where they ate froot loops and trix for 10 days....needless to say, they were a bit disappointed with the choices i offered!
ReplyDeleteenjoy your vacation, leslie.
my kids' favorite saturday morning of the summer is always the one when they get to eat fruit loops! driving to the beach, we always sleep in a hotel 1/2 way (the drive is SO long) - and in the morning, they get to eat fruit loops from the breakfast buffet. once-a-year. why are the fruit loops so much better than the waffles and pancakes and sausages and bagels and eggs we feed them every weekend morning!?
ReplyDeleteSounds like a nice morning. My parents collect coffee mugs from the placed they have been. It is fun to try to decide which one to use when I stay the night there. I hope you enjoyed the weekend!
ReplyDeleteand yet, I have 3 kids who WON'T eat them!...I'm with Madmad... YOUR FrootLoops look more like Art!
ReplyDeleteI purchase X-mas ornaments every place we go, and every year we have stories as we hang them on the tree. My first husband used to collect them when he traveled for his job. We treasure those ones now that he is gone.
ReplyDeleteHad to nominate you for the
ReplyDeleteBrilliant Weblog' award (not sure if you already have it) but you are one of my fav blogs so I wanted to include you ;-)

My mother collects those little souvenir spoons. With no irony at all.
ReplyDeleteIt's amazing how much you enjoy the little quirky things that drove you nuts when you lived with them!!! My kids are in heaven when we are at my parents'....lots of processed food, dyes, and SUGAR...the look on their faces as they stand infront of her pantry!
ReplyDeleteI think I like the sound of your breakfast more than theirs! And it's nice to think a little part of my side of the world was a little part of your morning!
ReplyDeleteMy foster mum used to collect tea towels from all over the world. Some she would hang on the walls of the kitchen. I thought she was a bit daft, but now I see where she was coming from.

ReplyDeleteMy kids have only gotten froot loops when we went to Disney. They gorged themselves!
ReplyDeleteThat's why we love our grandmother's. Spoil us they do. I have fond memories of visiting my grandparents and sitting in their kitchen and eatind Yodels and RingDings - something we never had at home!
ReplyDeleteI'm sure fruitloops weren't so bright when I was a kid!
ReplyDeleteI've recently found your blog, and are making your Toast and Toasty mitts! I just had to comment and say, YES! My parents (who live in South Florida where I'm also from) collect mugs from places. I only drink from the souveneir ones when I visit :)
