music and chocolate
Tuesday, August 26, 2008We returned from our end of the summer vacation on Saturday. To a million and one things to do.
On top of the list was getting ready for the new school year that started yesterday. And although I didn't think that I was ready for my children to go back to school, I must admit I was a little giddy when I returned to my empty house. And I did what I do every year on the first day of school. I blared music throughout the house and I made brownies. (Usually a box mix, but yesterday I made these.) It was a very good day.

My kids start tomorrow and I'm so sad. I live for summer vacation and I'll miss my kids being around. (And my son is a freshman and daughter starting junior high!) I think I'll make a batch of those brownies to cheer myself up!
ReplyDeleteMay you all have a very good school year!
ReplyDeleteOh, those sea salt brownies again. Gotta make me some of those.
ReplyDeleteHappy "back to school" to everyone.
I don't have kids, but I have to say, my neighborhood gets much quieter this time of year! Our schools open tomorrow! Yay!
ReplyDeletei have a couple of years until i've got an empty house during the day, and strangely, gavin is really sensitive to loud music and noise... no music through the house for me! but i think i could still enjoy some sea salt brownies. ;-)
ReplyDeleteoh, your lucky children! those brownies are the best. happy empty house.
ReplyDeleteThat's a great way to spend the first day! I'm still amazed at how much I can get done by noon with them gone, and then realize that I still have 2 more hours to go. I'll tire of the empty soon, but for now we should both enjoy.
ReplyDeleteMaybe I should go make some brownies.
Sounds like you'll have more time to knit :)
ReplyDeleteYAY for blaring music--I love that! Did you dance at all?;)
ReplyDeleteI love that backpack! Yummy brownies... Remember, don't run with scissors!

ReplyDeleteLove the blaring music and brownies! It'll be a long while before I experience that peace. Jorn is just starting and Simonne is years off...
Mine went back to school 8/11...too early for me...& them! I have two son's - one a junior, the other a freshman - YIKES! They grow soooo fast! The house is quiet but not our lives - both play football for their school so we are always on the move! Love the backpack - where from? Happy back to school & quiet knitting time! Ready to see some of your knitiing.:)

ReplyDeleteSounds like a great day! I have to try those brownies.
ReplyDeleteI love an empty house too.
I have to steer clear of the brownies until I repair the damage from all the fried clams and ice cream, and I probably won't blare any music because I can't wait to relish the sheer and utter silence... but I'm totally with you on the spirit of the thing. Yay for back to school! Hope they had a great day, too!
ReplyDeleteHow nice. Brownies, music, alone time... sounds dreamy. :)
ReplyDeleteI blare music when i cool too! Frank Sinatra is my choice, what's yours?
ReplyDeleteI found my black salt last night, which I might have to use for this. I really wish I could find the vendor I used for my specialty salts (she was at the farmer's market last year), because I'm sure she has the perfect salt for these brownies!
ReplyDeleteBrownies and Loud Music! Perfect!
ReplyDeleteWhat a great day - I would have loved to drive by and heard the loud music outside! too funny - a sign a true joy:) And those brownies, omg, they sound divine!
ReplyDeleteyummy brownies and happy schooling !
ReplyDeleteI love that backpack - is my fav colour.
I always wondered what Moms did on the first day of school after their kiddos got on the school bus. Now I know!
ReplyDeleteAll I could think when reading this was: More knitting time!! :)
ReplyDeletea week from today! although i will be a bit sad this year since we had such a good time together.
ReplyDeleteYour sea salt brownies are definitely on my list of things to bake. I love the combination of salt and chocolate.
ReplyDeleteYou may have "a million and one" things to do, but remember: if you want to do something really well, you should give it your full attention.
ReplyDeleteI know this is a few days late but I have every confidence that the fambly will pull together and get stuff done!
Hooray for the start of school! Oops...maybe I shouldn't cheer too loudly in front of my kids?
ReplyDeleteHappy start to the school year, I love Libby's back pack, so cute!
