Sea Salt Brownies were last week's cookie of the week...this week's cookie too.
I made them again today. These photos document the first batch.
Chopping 0ban wafers; completely unnecessary.
Buying cocoa rouge powder from a fabulous local confectioner; necessary.
Sampling the delicious batter; completely necessary.
Using sea salt; necessary.
Having the last bite for breakfast; completely necessary.
Three pieces from your second batch saved for your children's lunches; necessary.

sea salt fudge brownies:
1 1/2 sticks unsalted butter :: 2 oz unsweetened chocolate finely chopped :: 1/4 cup + 2 TBLS unsweetened cocoa :: 2 cups sugar :: 3 large eggs :: 1 1/2 t vanilla :: 1 cup flour :: 1/2 tsp sea salt
Line a 9" pan with foil, draping over the edge. Lightly butter.
Melt butter and unsweetened chocolate. Transfer mixture to a bowl. Whisk next ingredients in one at a time, except for sea salt. Pour into prepared pan. Sprinkle sea salt evenly over batter. Bake at 350 for 35 minutes. Center will be a bit soft. Let cool in pan for 1 hour. Refrigerate 1 hour until firm. Peel off foil. Cut into 16 squares. (In our case, 9)
I must warn you, they are a bit different with the salt on top. Sweet but salty.

ReplyDeleteI'll have to try these. My local chocolate shop has really delicious caramels with sea salt, so I've grown to love the taste!

ReplyDeletesuper yummy as always, the salt sounds an interesting touch. I've never heard of Oban Wafers? is it just chocolate? It looks like chocolate buttons (as we call them in England!)

Sounds Delicious! Much better than my version of "salt" fudge that I accidentally created when I was around ten. I thought the recipe said 1/2 cup of salt instead of 1/2 a tsp.! It was so sad because they LOOKED so good, but tasted sooooo awful.

That yummy breakfast-y cookie cake thingy with berries was a huge hit with both my husband and my children (um, yeah, me too), and now you have me thinking of going out and buying unsweetened cocoa? That's not something I usually stock... yet...

ReplyDeleteOh and you had to go and give the recipe, right? You couldn't just leave it at, "I made brownies. Check it." I even have some good chocolate in the house. GAH! I will definitely be trying these this week.
ReplyDeleteYum! This is a great recipe, thank you for sharing. (Is it from a cookbook I need to own?) Along with good chocolate, I used coarse fleur de sel instead of finely ground sea salt. Great results and it looks pretty with the salt flakes on top. I've been searching for a new and improved brownie recipe and this fits the bill!

That looks delicious!! I just have to try to make those. One question; how many grams is 1 1/2 sticks of butter? I will try to make Swedish Sea salt brownies...Hopefully they will be just as delicious as the ones you are making!!!
