cookies coffee and yarn, oh my!
Friday, April 04, 2008My kids love those big molasses cookies from starbucks, and I have to admit, I do to. Unfortunately, whenever we go to starbucks they seem to be out. Maybe they stopped making them? I did a little search through Martha, and found a recipe that I think tastes very similar.
Let me tell you, they are big. And chewy. And absolutely delicious.
I put wax paper in between, just like the recipe said. I also added the pepper (yes, pepper) just like the recipe said. If you make them, you won't be sorry.
Now this is my idea of the perfect afternoon. Coffee, cookie and yarn. Who could ask for anything more?
I plan on finishing those socks this weekend. Poor Ruby is feeling quite neglected.
Enjoy your weekend everyone!

ReplyDeleteThe yarn is beautiful and the coffee looks great. Looks like my kind of perfect day!
Yum!!! I think I will makes these this weekend.
ReplyDeletemmm, thanks for the recipe... i have a weak spot for molasses cookies, mostly for their texture. the vegan ones in the bakery section at whole foods are absolutely delicious, too, if you're ever in a pinch (the vegan part makes them softer in the middle & chewier on the outside, on account of the extra molasses).
ReplyDeleteWell, we're still eating the yummy mint cookies from last week, but I think I might give these a try next :) I seem to have everything in except the molasses.
ReplyDeleteEnjoy your Friday evening. We are going to watch Alvin and the Chipmunks at home and have popcorn.
This post is just picture perfect! D.Lish!
ReplyDeleteI just pulled butter out of the fridge to soften so I may have to make a batch of these...

Welcome back to the reality of the burgh, Les. Glad you made it home safe and sound...especially considering the 70 car pileup. Nothing like that around here.
ReplyDeleteYou said "cookie" not "cookiesss" That's my problem, I can't each just one:) I need your self control. Yummy, I love a chewy molasses cookie.
ReplyDeletethese do llok good! my mom used to make these when i was young, adn she used a large coffee can as the cookie cutter!!
ReplyDeleteHow you can make something with pepper look so drool-worthy, I'll never know! BTW, I love Ruby and await the FO.
ReplyDeleteYUM!!!!!!!!!!!!! Thanks for the link! I have a long run planned for tomorrow a.m. and these cookies would be the perfect recovery food, I think!
ReplyDeleteI always look forward to your cookie recipes and this one will be added to my list. Enjoy your knitting and weekend!!
ReplyDeleteI have made those ones with pepper before! They are very good. I think Starbucks stopped selling theirs, though because they ran out of business - they kept putting the calorie count right up there with the cookies. Now you tell me, do you really want to know that each of those guys is 470? I don't think so. (Good thing that goat got ours!)
ReplyDeleteCan't wait to make these! Your day sounds divine!
ReplyDeleteWelcome back, Leslie. I missed you. I made the espresso shortbread and was sooo disappointed. I wonder what I did wrong? They weren't sweet enough for my taste buds.I'll definitely be making your molasses ones, maybe tomorrow.
ReplyDeleteOh my goodness! I LOVE molasses cookies! Thanks for the recipe link, and the extra 10 pounds this spring...
ReplyDeletehappy knitting-
ali
I don't know whether sbux still has those cookies or not, but I DO know that they recently changed their recipes for all the OTHER cookies and they're not nearly as good.
ReplyDeleteIt's a good thing you found a replacement just in case Starbucks messed with your favorites. : )
Lovely pics, by the way.
ah cookies, nothing better to go with that than coffee, (of course after milk)and yarn...that was just perfect to complete that afternoon!
ReplyDeleteit looks like a perfect way to spend the afternoon....have a great weekend leslie.

ReplyDeleteLove your blog - I just spent some time here and I really enjoyed it!
ReplyDeleteThank you!
I LOVE those cookies!! Another good molasses cookie recipe, well, now that I think of it, maybe it was a ginger cookie...hmmm, in any case The Black Dog Resturant Cookbook, there are good cookie recipes in there, which surprised me for some reason... Thanks for sharing this recipe. There are so many that you have made that I want to try!
ReplyDeleteOh, I am so all over these! If only I could figure out how to hide them from my 3-year old cookie eater & husband.
ReplyDeleteYour day seems PERFECT - can we switch? Please, please?
Perfect!
ReplyDeleteoooh, I love the cookies.
ReplyDeleteOne of my favorite pumpkin pie recipes uses black pepper to help deepen the flavor. It makes a surprising amount of difference for such a small amount.
oh leslie, again with the good cookies!! I don't know if I should thank you or curse you--I love those starbucks cookies too too much and unfortunately, "ginger cookie diet" doesn't turn up much on google. Oh well, what's a few more laps on the elliptical machine??
ReplyDeleteI have yet to perfect the ideally chewy cookie. These look delicious.
ReplyDeleteHi Leslie!
ReplyDeleteJust wanted to tell you, that I, inspired by this post, made a danish version of the molasses cookies.
They will be on my blog in a short while, and even though you can't read the words, you might want to have a look anyway :-)
Have a lovely day.
Anne
Boy, those look yummy! I have a house full of boys on spring break. I may have to make some this afternoon, if I can track down some parchment paper.
ReplyDeleteCoffee, cookies and knitting - what else can i ask for !
ReplyDeleteI followed the link and made those cookies! They're fabulous.
ReplyDeleteI am totally addicted to Starbuck's version, with green tea. And since they're so easy to make at home, I just had to try this weekend! Thanks for the motivation!
