more shades of green... and a little ruby
Friday, March 07, 2008Things were grey all day. So, my photos of Ruby managed to change from one shade of green to another. And I actually don't think that either photo depicts the true shade. The photos also stink, so bear with me. They were the only thing I had in mind for the last day of green week.
I am plugging along. Not necessarily at a fast pace, but still moving forward, which is a good thing.
I really wanted to show how this sweater is constructed. It is worked from right to left, instead of from bottom to top, or top to bottom. And for that reason, I am so enjoying this pattern. The body is one piece. You bind off in two places, and then cast back on, for the armholes.
Can you see where it is going? I will just continue around the back, bind off, then back on, for another armhole, and continue to the end. Then knit the sleeves. Doesn't seem like much, huh? The cable pattern is easy to follow, again if your mind doesn't wander. However, unlike the tangled yolk, it is very easy to see exactly where you are in the pattern, and to catch your (my) mistakes early.

ReplyDeleteno knitting here. the needles were taken away. boo hoo.

this is so, so, so beautiful... cables just tug at me. can't wait to see it finished.
ReplyDeletebeautiful! i love the horizontal pattern rather than vertical.
ReplyDeleteHoly cow, you can knit fast!!! How do you do it?? Are you cabling without a cable needle? It's beautiful!
ReplyDeleteYou are making some great progress - the cables are exquisite and just "pop" off of the "canvas" - can't wait for more! I'm green with envy:)
ReplyDeletethank you for playing! i know it was a struggle to find that green. but you found so much of it. in such wonderful places.
ReplyDelete(and that sweater. leslie. makes me want to learn cables to knit that sweater.)
I am totally impressed! That sweater is going to look terrific.
ReplyDeleteThe sweater will be beautiful. I love the color of the green; in the pics it has that awesome soothing mossy green look to it. The cable work looks amazing. Great job. I am really looking forward to seeing the finished product.
ReplyDeleteThose cables look gorgeous, especially in that first picture. Funny how the color looks different every time you take a pic. I wish I had the patience to take on something like that, but I'm all for a quick knit (as you could tell by the cami) ;-) I've cast on for a shrug now, and have a deadline of Easter so I can wear it with a dress I have. I'll take pics soon.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the very kind words about my cami, I am so pleased with it.
Hugs
LOVED all the green! And wow, the cable is amazing! WOW, beautiful!
ReplyDeleteLook at all that wonderful cabling! It's terrific. Thanks for sharing your inspirations with us.
ReplyDeleteThat is looking great, its interesting seeing a different type of sweater construction. Love the green and all your green posts too!
ReplyDeleteThis is going to be a spectacular sweater, I can tell. I just wish I had the time and $$$ to make one for myself.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful!!!
I never realized that Ruby was knit sideways. Itlooks amazing. The cables look so intricate, and I think your progress is astounding.
ReplyDeleteWhat a progress on your Ruby. The cables are scrumptious!
ReplyDeleteruby looks amazing! I amdire your mad knitting skills. have a great weekend! :)
ReplyDeleteI really enjoyed all your green week pictures!
ReplyDeleteThe sweater is really coming along! the cables are gorgeous.
That is such an interesting construction, thanks for showing that!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful work on those cables - it's looking so great. Ruby sounds similar in construction to Imogen, which I just finished. It was really interesting to knit in a new (sideways)direction. I thought sknitty's Imogen was so nice, I cast on immediately in the same yarn, but my FO was way too big - I am sure frogland is approaching.
ReplyDeleteleslie. this may be one of my favorites. it seems to be coming along so quickly! your work is beautiful! i can not wait to see the finished product!
ReplyDeleteand yes, more pants. these are great, and I can't wait to see what else you make. i have already had a few requests for them. I may go to the fabric store and get some chocolate jersey knit fabric, and try to make a pair that you can wear out of the house....
This seems to be knitting up quite quickly, and is so beautiful! I can't wait to see the finished product. :0)
ReplyDeleteGorgeous cables! I love seeing the construction, too. I'll be interested to see how it all comes together.
ReplyDeleteThese photos don't 'stink'! Love to see how this is growing, very cool pattern!
ReplyDeletelooks spectacular! thanks for sharing! i love your beadboard walls too!
ReplyDeleteI enjoyed your Green posts... Your cable sweater is coming along beautifully staring at it with emerald eyes...lol.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful! I can see that it is going to be amazing when finished. I could use it right now as we continue to be buried by another 15 cm of snow.
ReplyDeleteAlso can anyone do these colour week assignments? It is really a fun way to see how everyone represents a colour.
Oooooh! This is sooo gorgeous! You're an amazing knitter.
ReplyDeleteits a masterpiece!

ReplyDeleteThose cables are simply amazing. You do great work (both knitting & photographing!!).
ReplyDeleteHi, I would like to say first and foremost that your sweater is b-e-a-utiful. I loved green week and am sad I didn't join in the fun.
ReplyDeleteThis may seem odd and out of place, but I am new to Blogger and am having some trouble getting the blogs I like to visit on there and was hoping you could help me. I love you blog and I have been reading it for a while now and you seem to be helpful and I was hoping you could help a knitting friend out.
I love it. And that cabely goodness looks delicious :)
ReplyDeleteWow, that looks fantastic, can't wait to see it finished!
ReplyDeleteIt is looking fabulous. I have just finished the body and started the first sleeve. I had some horrors with the final part of the body, the welt increases? I kept getting holes appearing when using the kfb twice, giant holes! Eventually I botched my own increases, let me know if you have the same problem and I will expand on what I did.
ReplyDeletegorgeous!
ReplyDeletetagged :) if you want!
ReplyDeleteyours, Eva
Oh, no, oh no, oh no - it's happening! I'm starting to feel the pull...
ReplyDelete..but I still have to sew the buttons on the yoke, so I'm not looking any more.
I truly love this - especially on you! Makes me want to try my hand at it once I build up my knitting skills to at least an intermediate level! :) LOVE reading your blog!!
