couldn't be happier
Monday, February 11, 2008I must admit, I feel a bit funny about posting these photos. Especially after all of your lovely comments on my tangled yoke, already. I so appreciate every single one. Thank you! Please, do not feel the need to comment on it. In fact, unless you are interested in making this, you should just move on down your bloglines. Really, I won't mind.
Since I did say I would show action shots, and since I did have my husband stand in 13 degree weather (because I wanted to be next to my favorite wall) and photograph it, I feel the need to post these. And, I wanted to let you know a few things I learned as I went along.
This is one of those knits that I liked SO much better off the needles than on. I don't know if it was the tedious rib, or the sleeves that made me feel like I was making socks, or the tangled cable that I had a horrible time with. But, I don't think there is a sweater I have ever been happier to have off of the needles. And, I really love it off the needles.
Yarn: Rowan Felted Tweed color 147, 6 balls. It calls for 7 balls. I only used 6, and had about 2 yards left. That is it.
Needles: size 5, circular and double point.
Modifications: I made the sleeves a little longer, 18 1/2 inches, because I do have long arms. I also only used 7 buttons instead of 9, because I had those buttons in my stash.
This sweater also requires blocking. I am not a huge blocker, in fact, I rarely block. However, when you block it, the cables relax.

Bottom Line: I do love this sweater. The yarn, the fit, the simplicity of it. I think it will be in heavy rotation in my wardrobe.

So fabulous! Modeled photos always do show a FO in its best light. I love the Tangled Yoke in the grey you choose. Very pretty.
ReplyDeleteWell, I don't think I've commented on it yet, and it certainly deserves it! Sounds like a bit of a slog, but so worthwhile. And I DO love seeing the modeled shots. You look fabulous.
ReplyDeleteI love the sweater. Fabulous job... but I can't help but comment on that wall! I think I would end up taking photos in front of it everyday.
ReplyDeleteit's fantastic! great job!
ReplyDeleteNow THAT is a sweater worth every bit of agony in the making- it looks great ON, too. Very fabulous. In fact, it looks better on you than on the model in IK, and now I have to make it too. You'll see the pics, in oh, I don't know, about a year. And it probably won't fit. But enough about me.
ReplyDeleteI love it! And I also made the cookies from the post before this one just a few hours ago. I can't seem to resist when I see them look so delicious on your blog!
ReplyDeleteI want one!
ReplyDeleteI like the way you sewed your buttons in the "diamond" position instead of square. Very pretty touch!
Good on you for sticking with it.
It's just beautiful - well worth the tedium and the aggravation. Everything about it is elegant and understated - dress it up/dress it down. It's perfect!
ReplyDeleteIt's fantastic. Truly. It looks great on you and like I said in Flickr, it's inspiring me to finish my own. Love it!
ReplyDeleteWow! It's just beautiful. I hope you're glad you stuck with it -- well worth the effort!
ReplyDeletethe more i see this sweater, the more i love it! it looks great on you (we blondes are so lucky that we can wear grey!). you should be proud of it, and wear it joyfully!
ReplyDeletei hope your honey was given some warm blondies and hot cocoa when he came in from your frigid photo shoot!
love this. you did a great job, leslie. i'm itching to get back to mine -- i've got a long road ahead, though...
ReplyDeleteIt looks really great! I know what you mean about wanting it off the needles. I will say, that if that were MY sweater, I would wear it all the time! I am tempted to knit it...but I am also thinking about your comments on it.
ReplyDeleteLeslie,
ReplyDeleteIt's gorgeous!!! Your knit such beautiful pieces. This looks like a cozy one.
Tanya
Simply perfect! I love this! As always...perfection.
ReplyDeletei think i am going to feel the same way about mine. if it turns out even a fraction as lovely as yours, i will be happy!
ReplyDeleteWhat beautiful work . . and I love the buttons too!
ReplyDeleteThis sweater is beautiful. I really think I need to consider making one myself. It looks even nicer being modeled.
ReplyDeleteNice cardigan, nice wall!
ReplyDeleteI have added your blog on my sidebar, hope it's ok, and I am having a blogoversary competition, so come over and visit sometime!
I said it before but I will gladly say it again...your Tangled Yoke is just perfect! I agree with Kirsten too about the modeled shots really showing an FO.
ReplyDeleteOutside in 13 degree weather?! What are you a weirdo or something ;-)
Looks great on you, e-mail me so we can meet at knitOne!
ReplyDeleteIt is very very pretty! I think I need to bump that up in my queue!
ReplyDeleteooooh, it really looks perfect!
ReplyDeleteI really have to comment...sorry
ReplyDeleteIt is beautiful !
it's gorgeous. i've said it before and i'll say it again. it's gorgeous.
ReplyDeleteThat is a great sweater! It does look like it's much more fun to wear than to knit, but so worth it to knit.
ReplyDeleteIt is beautiful on you. Just lovely.
ReplyDeleteIt is beautiful on you. Just lovely.
ReplyDeleteIt's *lovely*. And thanks for sharing your thoughts about both the arms and the blocking. I knit both arms with an extra 12 rows, but was feeling convinced that both needed another inch. I'm gonna do it (trust my gut this time). I have monkey arms and hate it when things are too short.
ReplyDeleteHope mine comes out half as lovely as yours!
Yup, I still like it!
ReplyDeleteso beautiful! love these photos, and so worthy of two posts!
ReplyDeleteOMG, now that is totally worth the extra FO post effort. I love it!!!! I'm so tempted by that freaking pattern. I don't have the stash yarn for it though and I may have bought 3 sweaters worth of yarn this winter. Ack!
ReplyDeleteIt looks beautiful on you! I love the wall that you pose next too - perfect for showing off your lovely knits!
ReplyDeletethe thing, Leslie, is not only are they so well done, but also that you wear them SO well.
ReplyDeleteIt looks great! I'm glad you kept on it. But what I want to know is what cookie you baked this weekend ;)
ReplyDeleteYea...as if we aren't going to comment on that gorgeous piece of knitting! I think I like your version better than the IK one! I can see how it would get a little tedious, though -- size 5's!
ReplyDeleteAnywho, enjoy your yummy sweater in this coooold weather (and kudos to your dh for helping with the photo shoot!).
i grew up in the "limestone capital of the world" bedford indiana if you must know, and that is what your wall looks like--love the wall and the sweater
ReplyDeleteI wouldn't think of moving on down without commenting, Miss Leslie. As usual, another fabulous FO for you! Love it...you look great in it, too. A little crazy maybe for standing out in the cold temps. Your husband must REALLY love you. LOL.
ReplyDeleteIt's lovely!! Seeing it on you makes me really want one of my own.
ReplyDeleteI think you nailed it...this is such a pretty sweater but it is just a hard knit to get through. Yours looks amazing. And it looks so good against that wall!
ReplyDeleteI love the sweater, too! And I know what you mean about just being happy that it's off the needles, already. Nothing like modeling for the blog to make you feel self-conscious, eh? They are nice photos, show off the sweater well, and I really like your favorite wall. If I have to consider making the sweater in order to comment, I will consider it...it looks like it would be great fun to wear (if not to knit!). =)
ReplyDeleteLovely work! I do plan to make that cardigan and it's great to see such a beautiful finished version.
ReplyDeleteLooks wonderful, great that the work was worth it in the end
ReplyDeleteIt's so gorgeous ! It fits you perfectly well ! You really make me want to knit it . And thanks for the wonderful Chewy Chunky Blondies , I made this recipe yesterday and it's so good !
ReplyDeleteHave a nice day !
Looks great and especially on you! Nice work.

ReplyDeleteIt's a gorgeous piece. I only wish I could tackle something like that, but I'm not quite at that stage yet.
ReplyDeleteIt's beautiful!
Beautiful. Stunning. I'm glad you braved the cold weather to bring us modeled shots! It's great when a knit lives up to expectations!
ReplyDeleteit. is. gorgeous.
ReplyDeletelove the action shots...it looks so pretty on you.
Delurking to thank you for something else to add to the queue! Beautiful work!
ReplyDeleteSilly girl, of course we want to comment :-) how could we not, when the sweater looks gorgeous, and you model it so well. I'm glad you expect to get a lot of wear out of it, makes it all worth while in the end I'm sure. I myself wouldn't fancy ALL of that st st!
ReplyDeleteHave a great day.
I really do want to make this sweater and I absolutely love your version of it. It's so pretty!
ReplyDeleteOMG! That is GORGEOUS!
ReplyDeletethis is just gorgeous! Well done with sticking to it - it was obvoiously worth it in the end.
ReplyDeleteIt looks just brilliant. I debated pretty hard between this and the tilted duster, and ultimately went with the tilted duster. I'm pretty regretful of that, because I am not sure that the TD will be as flattering on my body shape. But it's cast on now.
ReplyDeleteAnyway, yours is awesome! I love it!!!
This is a cookie thank-you; although the sweater is amazing! I've been inspired to join the Cookie of the Week spirit and so far am doing great. We loved, loved the Dunkin Platter Cookies; they lasted about 6 or 7 days, maybe, and that was the whole recipe!
ReplyDeleteThanks Again!
Michelle
Beautiful job! Don't feel sheepish about posting about the sweater again-- it deserved a proper FO post. I'm glad you've made something so wearable. Those are the best :)
ReplyDeleteIt's so great. I'm glad you love it!
ReplyDeleteThanks for your posts on this, since it is my next project, I appreciate all the input. Hope I like mine as much as you like yours.
ReplyDeletestunning - i really love the muted tweed color too. another amazing piece, leslie!!
ReplyDeleteI don't plan on making the sweater but that doesn't matter. I just wanted to compliment you on a job well done on both the making *and* the modeling :o)
ReplyDeleteWow, that is gorgeous!
ReplyDeleteVery nice! It definitely looks like a sweater you will get a lot of use out of.
ReplyDeleteWell it's lovely enough to deserve multiple comments! The sweater looks lovely laying flat and on you as well. Thanks for sharing the final photos... it's always good to see something looks as great worn (and not just folded on a table). Enjoy that knit!
ReplyDeleteI am about to embark on this Tangled (Web!!) Yoke cardigan--Is there a lot of built-in ease? I am a new blogperson--love your site.
ReplyDeleteGorgeous!!!
ReplyDeleteI want one too!! It's beautiful.
ReplyDeleteIt looks fabulous on! The grey is perfect.
ReplyDeleteGorgeous! Nothing beats modeled FO shots really, and the wall is fabulous!
ReplyDeleteVery pretty indeed :)
ReplyDeleteThat came out beautiful.

ReplyDeleteExtremely classy. It is a wonderful knit. I wish I were a cardigan knitter. I would knit this in a heartbeat. Congrats!
ReplyDeleteIt looks so elegant on you! You make knitting sweaters look so enticing:)Yes, this is a great wall to take photos up against. Taking photo shots of the sweater this way is the best for us to see it and how it is suppose to look on. Thanks!
ReplyDeletehaha, i commented on flickr too but just couldn't move on down the blogroll before saying once again it's so beautiful.
ReplyDeleteOH GOSH LESLIE! I have seen several TYs finished and yours is the most fabulous! I love the color, the buttons, and the fit is wonderful. Thank you for sharing the action shots with us all.
