the beginning
Friday, February 15, 2008It is the beginning of my new project, which takes a lot of yarn.
Twenty balls, to be exact. I am using color 24, green, same as the pattern calls for.
Debbie Bliss's Ruby. I started last night, haven't made much progress, but am just so happy to be working on size 8 needles. The only other person I have seen out there making this is Rebecca over at poshyarns. Ravelry only has Rebecca listed, also. Anyone seen it?
This weeks cookie: Mexican Wedding Cookies.
The recipe comes from a bakery in Florida that shared the recipe and is no longer in business.
The recipe comes from a bakery in Florida that shared the recipe and is no longer in business.
1 cup butter :: 1/2 cup powdered sugar, plus more for sprinkling :: 2 tsp water :: 2 tsp vanilla :: 1/4 tsp salt :: 2 cups flour :: 1 cup chopped pecans (do not chop too fine, lean on the larger side) Makes 12 cookies. Only,12!
Bake at 325 for 20 minutes. Immediately sprinkle with powdered sugar.
**Hide from kids, so there are more for you. Pull out dough from the freezer and bake those for them.**
My mother, sisters and I would have these in the morning with coffee and knitting. It really makes for a beautiful morning.
Enjoy your weekend!

ReplyDeleteThere is one in progress here, http://www.schenk.duebi.ch/2008/01/einige-gute-vorstze-fr-das-neue-jahr.html , Flurina emailed me, she has finished the main and is on the sleeves, I think.

ReplyDeleteMy goodness! That is one ambitious project. I can understand your desire to work on bigger needles after the Tangled Yoke. :)
ReplyDeleteWow! that looks like a task and a half - the Ruby, not the cookies (they look pretty simple and very yummy):-) Can't wait to see your progress on this.
ReplyDeleteI've just completed my first 'Evangeline', so I will post a quick pic. It's hard taking pics of your own hand!
Have a lovely weekend, wish I could join you for knitting and cookies ;-)
That is one of the prettiest sweaters I've ever seen next to the silver Belle. I may even prefer this one. I love that yarn and the color you picked is heavenly. I wonder which is more challenging to knit, Leslie? What do you think? I sure wish I lived next door. I would gladly bring the cookies and coffee just to sit and chat and watch you knit. You are my hero.

That sweater jacket looks so difficult . . I give you lots of credit for attempting it, but I know you will be able to do it. Me? I'd never try! *LOL*
ReplyDeleteI've made Mexican Wedding Cakes/Russian Tea Cakes for years. Usually you roll them a teeny bit into balls (not packed too tightly). My Grammy used to make them the best. They're my favorite cookies!
Yummy to both the sweater and the cookies! I can't wait to see the sweater grow - it will be gorgeous! Love your color choice! And my mouth is watering for some of those little sweet cookies!
ReplyDeleteOH! That is absolutely divine!! I wish I had more time to knit - I would absolutely LOVE to have a go at that but it would probably take me about 5 years to complete. I shall enjoy it vicariously through you!

ReplyDeleteTalk about a beautiful pattern! These are the kind of projects that if I still lived in PA, I wished we were in a coffee shop sitting around a fire with our feet kicked up on the cofeee table knitting this together.Ok, I can dream.LOL Love when you whip these kind of projects out. It's inspiring!

ReplyDeleteWhat an ambitious project, well for me, maye not for you so much. I think it's going to be pretty spectacular. I think Wedding cookies are probably one of my favorite cookies. Actually, I will shove anything covered with powdered sugar in my mouth and be pleased.

I don't know what to say today (I know I'm late on commenting anyway) except, I love your blog. It just makes me so *happy* to visit. And I love that your children are just enough older than mine that I can picture how things will be around here when mine start to get bigger. That doesn't make sense. What I mean is, I admire you as a mother AND as a knitter and fellow blogger and photographer. (It's almost my birthday and I'm feeling all lovey-dovey to the world.) :D
ReplyDeleteTag! I challenge you to post seven interesting/unusual/random/weird things about yourself. See my latest post for details!
ReplyDeleteMy mom makes those same cookies for Xmas! (Only she calls them Snowballs.)
ReplyDeleteWow, that's going to be an amazing project!
ReplyDeleteoh this is going to be fantastic on you! great color too. so cables and cables though - glad it's you doing this and not me.
ReplyDeleteI have this book also and this pattern caught my eye as well. I still have to make Silverbelle (aka Romy) as I have had the yarn for months now after being inspired by your version. I'm working on Ana as well from the Alpaca Silk book and that called for a.ton.of.Debbie.Bli$$. I feel ya.
ReplyDeleteOh I love that pattern and look at in my pattern book too. I cant believe only one other person is making it. I love the green yarn too. I cant wait to see progress shots of it.
