winter whites

Monday, January 21, 2008

Because, this week, I know that I will have no new knitting to show, I decided to join in Shari's Winter White week.
And really, I will have to stop myself from making more thorpe hats ( I have another on the needles) in order to work on the tangled yoke. It is time I faced it. I really don't want to, and I don't know why. But I will. I will finish this sweater. Because I want to. Well, I really don't want to knit it, I just want to wear it. Do you ever think this way?

So, knitter friends, please excuse me, while I post a little winter white.

I think most of the things I knit end up being "things I want to wear" rather than "things I want to knit". lol Sometimes makes me wish I wasn't the only knitter in my family - I want handknit gifts too!!! Oh and the Tangled Yoke? I'm dying to make that too. I can't wait to see yours!!

  3. Sometimes it would be easier to have a knitting machine wouldn't it to make the things we want to wear!!

  4. OK, OK, I need to cast on for a thorpe hat - yours are so great. My nephews would love them!

Oh yes, I get that. I just casted on for the Phiaro Scarf out of the new knitscene and I was knitting away last night and though, OMG, I have to knit straight for 22"??? I just want to wear it!

  5. I wish my son would wear the thorpe hat...showed it to him and he just shrugged his shoulders. Maybe he's not old enough.

I also have the same problem...I want to make many sweaters and my brain niggles me and says "yeah, but then you have to knit 2 sleeves AND you have to sew it up". I'm working on Elsebeth Lavold's Ljod cardigan right now and I keep finding other things to knit in between.

  6. Well, that's why I've been doing only low stakes projects recently, I just can't get it together to do anything more substantial!

  8. The little quick knits are so like junk food! You keep saying to yourself, just one more, but then your "Tangled Yoke" remains neglected in some dusty corner for months on end.

Um, no, this never happens to me! ;)

Do I ever feel that way? Yes! I'm forcing myself to finish this project I hate because I've heard it looks so good on everyone! And someday, maybe, I'll finish the Silver Belle. Maybe...

I can't wait to see the Tangled Yoke on you!

  13. Lovely picture of the winter white.
I need to finish up my Thorpe hat so I can cast on my Asymetrical Cardigan, I have been procrastinating. I just want to wear it too! Thanks for the inspiration to knit the Thorpe.

  14. I feel exactly that way about a lot of sweaters I knit. They're boring to knit, but so nice to wear. Good luck with the Tangled Yoke!

  18. I totally understand the desire to run right past the knitting to the finish line! Yours will be gorgeous, I'm sure.

By the way, I've just given you an award. See for yourself at my blog, http://yarnismymetier.com

  19. Isn't that always the way "I just want to wear it already!" I think that is my biggest inducement to avoid acrylics -- I need the pleasure of the yarn running through my fingers. Having an interesting pattern helps, too. That cardigan will be lovely, but I imagine all that stockinette could get you down...

  22. I ALWAYS just want to wear my knitting patterns! :) As much as I enjoy knitting, I think I am definitely NOT a process knitter.

  23. Mmm, love the winter whites.
I definitely get that way with a few sweaters, but once you are wearing you can hardly remember that feeling.
