shhhhhhh
Wednesday, December 19, 2007I am the type of knitter that usually only has a couple of things on the needles. One small, and one big. I like to finish them before moving onto the next. As you can see, this is why. I made one while at the beach in August. I made the other one the other day. Somewhere down in the cables I had fewer rows on one. Damn. Years ago, I would have never given this to someone. I absolutely would have fixed this mistake.

if you dont say anything i am sure she wont even notice. And if by some chance she does notice i bet she wont mind cos she knows that you made them with love.
ReplyDeleteI'll never tell :oP !!!
ReplyDeleteYour secret is safe with me!!
ReplyDeleteWhat yarn is that? It is a wonderful color.
Some little mistakes just add character to knits... So long as it doesn't have holes, it's good!
ReplyDeleteI know what you mean...too much on the needles, too little accomplished!
Happy knitting!
Details! Details! They look perfect and you're right, she won't notice or care. If she does, send them my way. *I* won't care!!
ReplyDeleteNOT going to be noticed, I'm sure of it!! Just say it's your "Amish" project; the Amish purposefully worked in a "mistake" to mark a handmade item. (At least, I think it was the Amish!)
ReplyDeleteIs it Classic Elite yarn? Your go-to? I swear, you need a job with them. You could be a test knitter AND a photo stylist, since both are such grand talents of yours.
How is your other job going??
Your secret is safe with me. It's funny because every time I make these, I go back and look at the modifications you made to the originals. I know you use fewer rows to make them shorter. Hmmmm...
ReplyDeleteI am sure the recipient won't even notice! They looks fabulous! I love the color.
ReplyDeletelol :)
ReplyDeleteyour secret is safe!
They are great, no matter about the extra row or three, I'm sure they will be loved!

ReplyDeleteperfection is over rated. these look so natural, almost like tree branches. and tree branches are rarely symmetrical or identical. i think they're beautiful.
ReplyDeletehehe... I am with you.... cross your fingers and hope that they luv the gift and dont notice the difference till after the first wash then you can blame the machine.... hehe
ReplyDeletethey do look beautiful by the way

I just did the same thing with a pair of Maine Morning Mitts. One is slightly longer & has a slightly longer thumb than the other. My friend might not notice. And if she does, she might be nice enough not to mention it. :)
ReplyDeleteLOL! Looks great, just don't show her that photo and you are safe!!
ReplyDeleteGood for you!! Perfection is overrated anyway!!
ReplyDeletesecrets are okay sometimes. i'm sure she will not notice. and if she does ... she will still love them. yep.

Leslie---I'll keep your secret! I have a few of my own... ;-)
ReplyDeleteI just had to frog a pair of Dashings for my brother due to yarn *ahem* miscalculation (trying to squeeze too many last minute gifts out of one skein)
ReplyDeleteYour secret is certainly safe with me ;-)
I think they're beautiful! Good for you on giving them anyway. I'm trying to overcome my own knitting analness!
ReplyDeleteThat's aggrevating, but she won't notice or won't care once they're on. What a nice gift!
ReplyDeleteoh, i'm sure she'll never know! they are positively lovely. and i'm behind on my blog reading -- that cabled throw is gorgeous!
ReplyDeleteThe lucky person to receive them will be so happy to get them she won't even notice. I won't tell!!
ReplyDeleteThe lucky person to receive them will be so happy to get them she won't even notice. I won't tell!!
ReplyDeleteOh, I hear ya! Thing is, they never DO notice [unless they're knitters]. :)
ReplyDeleteNora
I am absolutely sure every pair of socks or mitts I have ever made have odd numbers of rows. They look fantastic anyway - I have a pair of Dashing on my small knits over Christmas list.
ReplyDeleteWe love you and your perfectionistic ways! She'll love them!
ReplyDeleteCan't tell....they look so warm and cozy! I'm the same type of knitter - one small and one large project at a time!
ReplyDeleteOh, she'll never notice! She'll be too overwhelmed by the funky cabley fingerless goodness!
ReplyDeleteOnce they're on, nobody will notice! That yarn is a lovely color :)
ReplyDeleteDon't worry, my lips are sealed. What a wonderful gift!
ReplyDeleteWe won't tell either. And once they are on, no one will notice. I love them!
ReplyDeleteHahaha! At least you didn't remake the left glove... which is what I did!
ReplyDeleteVery sneaky, but I love it!
ReplyDeleteShe'll love them and she won't notice!
ReplyDeleteLOL!! @ bow
ReplyDeleteI wouldn't have even notice if you didn't point it out!
Keep movin' on!
She will love her Dashings!
