cookies and cupcakes

Charlie chose the cookie this week. An all time favorite, snicker doodles. This time I used spectrum organic vegetable shortening from whole foods. They tasted exactly the same. (I promise, mom.) And, they are non-hydrogenated! Gotta love that.

And speaking of tasting exactly the same, let me tell you about this beautiful cupcake. It is a vegan tiramisu cupcake made by my dear friend, Merrit. The recipe is from Vegan Cupcakes Take Over The World. My diet is not vegan, but I want this cookbook. Absolutely delicious. I really didn't want to share. But I did. A little.

  7. I've been meaning to tell you how much I enjoy Cookie of the Week :-)

I usually just read about your cookies and eat them with my eyes, but I think I will actually make some Snickerdoodles soon. You know, the last recipe I used called for butter instead of shortening. And every last cookie got eaten, so I guess that it was a hit!

  8. I've used that shortening for a while and love it. I also use Organic Earth Balance instead of butter or margarine in all my recipes. You really can't tell. I have been replacing all my baking with vegan ingredients and love it. VCTOW is my all time fav cupcake book. LOVE it.

  14. I found your blog today and absolutely love it. I swear that if I start getting into knitting and sewing, it's all because of you. I had to go back and read all your entries...they were so charming.

And the photos are great. I especially love the one where your daughter models her new vest. So cute!

  15. YUM. These photos are so great!

I'm a big fan of the Spectrum shortening. I figure, if you need to use saturated fats (and sometimes you really do), might as well use the kinds that grow that way! And Palm and Coconut are so happy to oblige...

  17. What a great idea, my kids would love that. Aren't you a lovely mum! Is Crisco oil or something else? I'm just wondering how that translates to Aussie products.

  19. That is a beautiful plate for a yummy looking cookie. I might have to peruse that cookbook.

Chalkboard paint is a fun idea. I might have a spare wall for it (a kitchen cookie board maybe), but a whole house with chalk dust. I'd be seriously done in.

  31. I have that cookbook and it is awesome! My son decided to try veganism (is that even a word?) a few years ago, and although it didn't stick, we still all love certain vegan recipes.
