This is my entry for the March/April tie one on. The theme, rick rack. I really didn't know if I was going to do this, however when we were in Florida my mother came across my grandmothers rick rack, and asked me if I wanted it. Well, of course! I made these while there, and since my mother doesn't have a fabric store around, we hit her linen closet. These are made from old pillow cases. The owls are made out of a few scraps my mom had in her stash. The inspiration for the owls came from my friend, Merrit, who was having a "meet and greet" for her new precious baby, Finn. She made invitations with the cutest little owls on them. Hopefully she will get back to blogging soon to show you!
These are actually now very special considering they have my mothers pillow cases and my grandmothers rick rack. I guess I will have to make my sisters each one!
We finally got back to our cookie of the week. Charlie got to choose, and he chose:

Yum! Even after all that cake and cupcakes last weekend, I still have room for a cookie. What a lovely tradition!

ReplyDeleteThose are the most adorable aprons. The cookie recipes that you post look delicious. I am wondering if you are using the trans-fat free shortening and if so, which brand? Have you ever substituted butter instead? Did they turn out? Sorry so nosey, I just want to use the recipes but I don't use shortening...I love your blog!

Those aprons are wonderful! I love that they match but are not exactly the same and great use of rick-rack! April has totally gotten away from me--I so wanted to do this one. aach, you can only do so much, right?

ReplyDeleteAwww, mama and daughter matching aprons . . I love it!! That's so special. I remember putting on my Grammy's aprons while we'd cook. She'd laugh so hard because they'd go to the floor on me! Years later, after she passed . . I was going through some drawers and found her aprons. They were so small! I miss my Grammy every day. These memories are so special . . your daughter will always remember all the love and care that you put into making things for and with her. My mom wasn't so crafty and I don't have any memories like that . . other than she used to read to me a lot (she's a teacher). I plan on sharing homemade things with my children.

ReplyDeleteI LOVE RICK RACK! And owls were the mascot for my highschool (how nerdy, right?). Your creativity kills me, I want to sew, any suggestions on how one starts, like machine wise? I know how to sew and thread my mom's old Singer and eveything, but have no clue where to begin since it has been a while.

Hi...Love your aprons! Owls are all the rage right now, you know. =) I just picked up some patterned fabric to try and make some aprons. I have no idea what I'm doing really. DO you happen to have a pattern? Is there a good place for me to pick one up? I'd love some input...if you have the time. =) Thanks for sharing- the pics and your cookie recipe too!
